4 Questions Leaders Should Ask Themselves Often

Evaluating one’s own strengths and weaknesses is essential for leaders. In addition to benefiting the professional, this task is important for teams and results. But despite seeming simple, setting aside time for self-analysis is increasingly difficult in a busy routine, full of events and commitments. To facilitate this process, Magui Castro, partner in Brazil at The Caldwell Partners, an international executive recruitment firm, advises leaders to regularly question themselves about their attitudes and performance at work. By highlighting four questions that should be asked frequently, she states that creating this habit helps to engage teams more and improve their own performance.
1 – What have I been doing?
According to Magui, this question allows us to reflect on the personal progress of the leader and the company. “We can only get an idea of how far we can go by monitoring our work and projects, evaluating quality and deadlines,” he explains.
2 – How am I treating my team?
The executive comments that being a leader usually means living in a solitary position and taking responsibility for one’s own actions and those of the entire company. She emphasizes that the team is fundamental to the company’s good results, and understanding the requests and desires of this team should be a recurring concern.
3 – Am I encouraging the company to have an environment of innovation?
As companies seek innovative solutions to be more successful in the market, she states that the leader needs to ask himself whether he offers an environment for his team to debate new ideas, a place that is a free channel for discussions and disagreements in search of the organization’s progress.
4 – Can I deliver on my promise?
A leader who doesn’t deliver on his promise is disastrous, says Margui. That’s why she believes it’s worth being honest and transparent with teams and communicating news and updates clearly, envisioning the solution and not extolling the problem. “This attitude is essential for the company to have a leader who is trustworthy and a partner for the teams,” she emphasizes.
